It’s like someone telling you to stop eating a lot of hamburgers and pizza because you’ll ruin your metabolism. Although if you’re trying to lose weight, you’re not going to want to eat too many hamburgers.
I always tell people to start with a low-calorie diet, but I think its important to make sure youre not just eating too many sodas. People need to understand the calorie content of a drink like soda or iced tea. Just like a drink, soda or iced tea must be at a low-calorie level. Just because a drink is low-calorie does not mean it has zero calories.
So what does “calorie” mean? It’s a measurement of what you eat. If you have a small dinner (or a small lunch or a small snack) and you eat a big dinner (or a big lunch or a big snack) you’re probably not eating much at all. If you eat a big lunch and you eat a big dinner, that’s probably not eating enough.
We have the concept of a calories-per-gram (CPG) to help us measure how much a drink has in it. A large drink like a latte, a large glass of wine, or even a large cup of coffee has a CPG of about 150 calories per gram. Thats two or three times more than a normal drink. In comparison, a regular soda or tea has a CPG of about 25 calories per gram.
